*We did some research on Hattie Carnegie and it certainly would be hard to overestimate the influence she has had on the fashion industry. She has been quoted as saying "she prefers to dress a woman so that, when she enters a room, people will say, “What a beautiful woman!” rather than, “What a beautiful dress!” ' That truly shows with the elegant silhouettes of her dresses. Many of Hattie Carnegie's dresses on show at the MET, some very similar to this dress, are attributed to the designer Norman Norell, who worked for Hattie in the 1930's.
