1970s JEAN VARON England kimono sleeve dress xs | new winter
Chic 1970's kimono sleeve dress from collectible English designer Jean Varon! Done in a floaty sheer peach organza and adorned with satin ribbons. Large scale anemone flowers are embroidered on the front and back of bodice. Sheer kimono sleeves. Matching ribbon belt. Fully lined in peach satin. Back zipper.
“I called it Jean Varon because at the time an English name like John Bates meant nothing; you had to appear to be French. Jean is French for John and Varon because there was no ‘V’ in the rag trade book. Jean Varon made a good graphic image" - John Bates
John Bates founded the Jean Varon label in 1960 and it became known for the futuristic and he even designed a wardrobe of outfits for the second half of the first Emma Peel season on The Avengers in 1965-66. By the late sixties and into the seventies his work tended more towards more floaty, feminine designs.
