1960s PIERRE CARDIN coat xs | vintage scalloped space age coat | new fall
Divine Pierre Cardin coat! Done in a bright red/orange wool melton. Scalloped and ribbed cape collar that is attached to the coat and is also on the back. Straight style with curved side pockets and curved side slits...so unique! Black buttons are decorative and there is hidden snaps down the front of the coat and on the collar. Fully lined in orange/red satin. Comes with wide belt with square rhinestones. This is not original to the coat but period appropriate.
From the Vintage Fashion Guild: Pierre Cardin was a Frenchman, he studied architecture but worked as a cutter for a tailor. In 1939 he became an apprentice to a tailor in Vichy. After WWII he worked as an assistant; first at Paquin, and then at Schiaparelli, before becoming the head of the workrooms at Christian Dior in 1946. He was at Dior in 1947 and helped develop the “New Look” which made Dior’s fame. The vintage savvy or collector of vintage clothing will likely find Cardin designs from the 1950s, 1960s, and very early 1970s to be most desirable, as these reflect Cardin’s work more closely than the later licensed products.
